Camphorquinone Chemical

Camphorquinone is an organic compound with the chemical formula C10H12O2. It is a yellowish crystalline solid that is commonly used as a photosensitizer in dental restorative materials.When mixed with an amine, such as ethyl 4-(dimethylamino)benzoate, camphorquinone acts as a photoinitiator, which means that it initiates polymerization when exposed to light. This property is exploited in dental restorative materials, where a mixture of camphorquinone and an amine is applied to a tooth cavity, and then exposed to a blue light source to initiate polymerization of the restorative material.
